19. THE IMPACT OF PROJECT-BASED LEARNING ON ENGLISH ACADEMIC WRITING SKILLS

This study aims to evaluate the impact of Project-Based Learning (PBL) on the development of university students' academic English writing skills. The research adopted a quasi-experimental design involving 80 students, divided into two groups: one group received instruction through traditional writing methods, while the other engaged in academic projects over a 12-week period. Data were collected through pre- and post-intervention writing tests, along with student surveys regarding their learning experiences. The results revealed that the PBL group showed significant improvements in essay structure, argumentative ability, and coherence, outperforming the traditional group. Additionally, PBL students demonstrated greater autonomy, creativity, and teamwork skills. The study concludes that PBL is an effective approach to enhancing academic writing proficiency while also fostering essential soft skills in the context of modern education. However, it recommends that instructors design appropriate projects with clear guidance to avoid overload or misalignment with learning objectives.
