ECONOMIC–ENVIRONMENTAL EFFICIENCY ANALYSIS OF ACACIA PLANTATION MODEL IN BINH DINH: A STUDY IN THREE DISTRICTS: AN LAO, HOAI AN VINH THANH

Abstract

This study evaluates the economic–environmental efficiency and associated risks of the acacia plantation model across three ecological subregions in Binh Dinh Province (An Lao, Hoai An, and Vinh Thanh). The results show that Hoai An achieved the highest economic efficiency (NPV of VND 92.4 million/ha) due to favorable cultivation conditions, while Vinh Thanh demonstrated the strongest environmental performance, with a CO₂ absorption capacity of 13.2 tons/ha/year. The model also contributed to a 35.2% reduction in soil erosion and improved soil fertility. However, risks from price fluctuations and climate variability could reduce profits by up to 49%. The study proposes region-specific solutions, such as implementing FSC certification in Hoai An, adopting water-saving irrigation techniques in An Lao, and developing drought-tolerant acacia varieties in Vinh Thanh, to ensure the sustainable development of acacia plantations in the context of climate change
