13. ANALYZING DERIVED MEANINGS IN KOREAN TO ENHANCE KOREAN LANGUAGE LEARNING SKILLS

This study focuses on analyzing the structure and role of derived words in Korean to enhance language learning skills. Based on previous sources such as Lee Ik Seop 이익섭 (1997 년 ), the paper has been refined to reveal factors affecting learners' Korean listening and speaking skills, partly due to the lack of understanding of derived words and the absence of these concepts in educational curricula, despite their recognizability when exposed. Since derived words constitute a significant portion of the Korean language system and are widely used in communication, their limited emphasis in education poses a challenge. Moreover, even among those who have studied them, misunderstandings often arise, confusing them with Sino-Korean elements—a minor component of derived words. The study employs analytical and synthetic methods to examine derived words in the Sejong Korean Conversation curriculum, highlighting their importance in vocabulary expansion and communicative competence. Subsequently, it proposes self-study methods and teaching approaches for effectively incorporating derived words. The ultimate goal is to enhance learners’ knowledge of derived words and improve their Korean language communication skills.References
