ADVERSE DRUGS EVENTS AND INFLUENCING FACTORS WHEN USING GLUCOCORTICOIDS AT DAK NONG GENERAL HOSPITAL

Background: Since in the 1981s, glucocorticoids (GCs) have been the primary therapeutic approach for a wide range of immune-mediated and allergic diseases [13]. Despite their efficacy, the incidence of adverse drug events (ADEs) associated with GC use remains relatively high [6]. Consequently, this study aimed to investigate the factors influencing ADEs in inpatients treated with GCs at Dak Nong General Hospital’s Department of Internal Medicine - Pediatrics - Geriatrics in 2022. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted at a single point in time on December 31, 2022, retrospectively reviewing medical records of patients in the Department of Internal Medicine - Pediatrics - Geriatrics of Dak Nong General Hospital from June 1, 2022. Results: A total of 126 medical records were analyzed, with 62.5% of patients being male and the average age being 33.6 ± 29.9 years. The prevalence of ADEs was 20.4%. Three factors were found to be associated with an increased risk of ADEs: duration of treatment > 7 days (odds ratio [OR] = 3.02), increased number of medication doses (OR = 5.22), and timing of medication administration. Conclusion: This study found an association between the timing of medication administration, the number of medication doses, and the duration of treatment with the occurrence of ADEs
