KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDES, AND PRACTICES REGARDING PEPTIC ULCER DISEASE AMONG PHARMACY STUDENTS AT NGUYEN TAT THANH UNIVERSITY

Peptic ulcer disease is one of the most common gastrointestinal disorders; therefore, equipping students with adequate knowledge, appropriate attitudes, and preventive behaviors is of considerable importance. A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted through a survey of pharmacy students at Nguyen Tat Thanh University. The results indicated that the prevalence of a history of the disease among students was 24,3%. The mean knowledge score was 16,89 ± 4,95 out of 26 (65%), the attitude score was 41,75 ± 5,91 out of 55 (75,9%), and the behavior score was 38,41 ± 5,96 out of 55 (69,8%). Statistically significant differences were observed between knowledge and academic performance (p < 0,01), and between behavior and gender (p = 0,008). Significant correlations were also found between knowledge and attitude (r = 0,317; p < 0.001), and between knowledge and behavior (r = 0,130; p = 0,007). Overall, students demonstrated a moderate-to-good level of knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors regarding peptic ulcer disease. Students should adopt healthy lifestyle habits and effective stress management strategies to prevent the disease
